Show Report: March 20/March 21 AND March 27/28, New York City

March 20/March 21 AND March 27/28 because I don't write very fast. Oops.

First of all, it's different. Not in a bad way! A few things are different because the cast is different. West End has had the same Dumbledore, the same McGonagall, the same Amos Diggory, the same cover Albus (lol), etc. for two years. Those things aren't the same for the NY cast. And some things are different because the stage is different. And some things are different because....well, I don't know why. But a few lines are new, some lines are missing, and quite a bit of the choreography has changed.

Don't worry. It's magical. They've still got it. cut for lengthy and spoilers )

Harry Potter Meta: Cowardice, Coolness, and Survival

I've posted a meta about the sometimes unimpressive-looking choices Harry makes to survive in the Harry Potter books and how that (used to be) really well displayed in the choreography and staging choices in Cursed Child.

Cross-posted to my dreamwidth and tumblr.

#WhyIGoBacktoCC

On January 27, Rakie Ayola, who plays Hermione in the second cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace theatre in London, asked a few different fans (starting with [twitter.com profile] torestoreamends and [twitter.com profile] clairegallagher, and continuing to other fans at stage door that night) to explain why they return back to the Cursed Child show repeatedly.

And then the fan network kicked into gear. Fans told other fans about the request, and fans started writing/tweeting/mailing their answers back to the cast. And in its own small way, this exploded.

[twitter.com profile] yomoony coined the hashtag #WhyIGoBacktoCC on twitter, and now there are pages and pages of responses to the hashtag. Some of these responses link to tumblr posts, some to images of more text or letters or at least one video response.

Rakie herself responded by video through the [twitter.com profile] HPPlayLND official twitter feed and other cast members responded as well (Tom/Ron, James/Draco, Theo/Albus).

I haven't had time to scroll through all of the posts, but there has been a definite thread of mental health acknowledgement and support, and it's been really beautiful to see this odd side spot of fandom getting a real opportunity to share their love with each other and the cast outside of the traditional stage door.

September 1, 2017: 19 Years Later

According to the new Official (TM) Harry Potter timeline, the official date of Albus Severus Potter's first day at Hogwarts is tomorrow, September 1, 2017.

There is an informal fan meetup at Kings Cross, Platform 9 3/4 before 11am tomorrow morning, just in time to try and catch the train!

The Cursed Child play is having a special showing of both parts on September 1, even though normally on Friday nights the show only plays Part 2, to follow up on the Part 1 on Thursday night. (This week Part II will be on Saturday night.)

The HPPlayLND twitter has denied that the suspicious scaffolding in front the theatre has anything to do with it September 1st, but rumors abound that something special will be happening at the theatre.

There is a Nineteen Years Later Fest kicking off on tumblr tomorrow, with fanfic and fanart to be posted through September 4th!

Feel free to share any thoughts or feelings about 19 years later in the comments below!

Welcome!

Welcome!

This is a Dreamwidth Harry Potter fan community for fans of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Fics, meta, recs, fanart, manips, news, etc. from all branches of the Harry Potter universe are welcome, even if they are not directly related to Cursed Child. Critique and analysis of Cursed Child are welcome, but if you don't like the play or only want to talk about how much you hate it, there are plenty of other communities out there. Here we critique because we care. :)

I recognize that most of the fandom discussion these day is over at twitter and tumblr, so I expect there will be a lot of links to those sites while I work out the kinks. Suggestions for improvement always welcome!
